Host Families
NYA depends on a large network of volunteers across the country. One essential group of volunteers are the host families who play a key role in making the Canadian placements happen. NYA participants travel, in pairs, to communities across Canada to live with a host family and to volunteer at a work placement for five weeks in July/August. The host family is the foundation of this experience providing support and a home away from home.
The participants will spend their days volunteering at a predetermined work placement. Host families are encouraged to introduce the youth to their community and of course to involve them in family activities. NYA provides a stipend to cover the cost of room and board as well as ongoing support from the NYA staff.
